The Veteran Homestead is a nonprofit organization, supporting three facilities in central Massachusetts The Veteran Hospice, The Hero's Homestead and The Armistice Homestead. We also have a Mobile Medical Unit that canvases the central Massachusetts and New Hampshire, providing health screenings for veterans. The Hospice Homestead has also completed a new project, The Veterans Victory Farm, a working farm for veterans with emotional or physical problems. This is a place of health and healing, as are all of the Hospice homes.
The Hospice is the nation's only facility that specializes in the care of veterans who have been diagnosed with terminal illness. We provide the community with the type of care and support that these Veterans need to cope with the problems associated with life threatening illness. We at the Hospice are dedicated to the goal of returning a sense of dignity to these dispossessed men and women.
The Hero's and Armistice Homesteads' are facilities in which thirty aged homeless veterans are provided cost effective housing with a homelike atmosphere and a support structure that provides for their emotional and physical problems. These residents, who previously lived on the streets or in shelters, are encouraged to help each other and attend to as many of their own needs as possible. We provide our men and women with necessary services in an environment that is safe, affordable and supportive.
The Veteran Homestead Mobile Medical Unit is a van that travels throughout central Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire providing health screenings to veterans who have problems getting to other veteran's health facilities. The staff of the Mobile Unit, work closely with the VA and other health organizations to provide the continuity of care, necessary to the needs of the patient and the VA.
